Wiha Precision Screwdrivers Review
Stripping a screw is a pain. Stripping a tiny screw is worse. If you want to work on today’s small electronics, a good precision screwdriver set is a must.
While looking for a replacement set of precision screwdrivers, Wiha was recommended more than any other brand. I looked on forums, spoke with cell phone repair shops, laptop techs and even a few R/C hobbyists and almost every one mentioned these. I figured I should give them a try.
The drivers are available individually, in smaller sets, or in one of large master sets. They cover slotted, phillips, torx, hex, nut drivers and pentalobe. They are also available in an ESD safe version
The tips of the drivers are well machined and grip the fasteners well. The handles are made of plastic with a spinning top, useful to operate with one hand. The handle also has a no-roll design to keep them from rolling away.
Some of the smaller sets come with a green fabric pouch to hold the drivers. Master size sets are available with a blow molded case or a bench top stand.
I was able to test the phillips, slotted and torx on a recent laptop repair. All of the drivers held the fasteners well and never slipped while trying to break the tightened screws loose. I can’t say the same for my old Craftsman set.
